Vengeance makes for a primal motivation but The Revenant is really a tale of survival: the settling of America as an odyssey of mythic dimensions in an untamed wilderness determined to kill all who fail to respect it. Left for dead by a particularly mercenary member (Tom Hardy) of the hunting party he guides through the mountain wilds, against all odds he literally rises from his grave to pull himself from certain death and claws his way back to what passes for civilization for revenge against the man who murdered his son and buried him alive. Leonardo DiCaprio is Hugh Glass, a real-life 19 th century mountain man and guide whose story inspired legends, books, and at least one previous film ( Man in the Wilderness with Richard Harris). The Revenant has been called a revenge movie, which is true enough. Watch at your own risk.Genre: Adventure, Mystery, Science Fiction, Thriller I wish I would've gotten a better movie, but it didn't make me want to pull my hair out. I can't exactly recommend this movie, but it's not like I can say that I felt like I felt like I wasted my time.

With that said, I didn't hate this as much as I would've expected, and I also rented it for free on Redbox, so that helps.

And even if it was, I don't see people liking this movie enough to ensure that a sequel would also be successful. Like I mentioned earlier, it's something that they could expand upon, but I don't expect them to since the film wasn't that successful at the box office. There's bits and pieces here, but they never seem to do anything all that interesting with it. The story is nothing special and it is not particularly well-written. He's obviously most known for Fast and Furious, but I think Riddick is the perfect vehicle for him and his particular set of talents, even more so than the Fast and Furious franchise. I mean, he's obviously not what one would call a good actor, but the guy is real charismatic and he can be charming when he wants to and I think that the movie doesn't really use him as effectively as he has been used in Riddick, for example. I like Vin Diesel and he's perfectly fine here. Though, of course, that doesn't excuse the movie for not being good, but it also helps in not taking it so serious and trying to analyze every last aspect of the film. It's purposely a B-movie and I think that's what a lot of people fail to realize. In a lot of ways it actually is, but I also realized that this was never meant to be anything more than what it actually is. It's not that it's even a terrible movie, though I can see how some people might think it is. And that's a similar fate that I see for this film. Again, Dracula Untold was fairly successful, but it's not a movie that anybody really remembers. Dracula Untold was actually really successful, at least worldwide, but did anyone really care about any of those films? Not to mention the fact that stylistically and visually all of these films look very similar. No idea why, but look at Seventh Son, I, Frankenstein or Dracula Untold. These movies usually have a really tough time finding an audience. PG-13 definitely was the rating they were going for in order to ensure a broader audience, but I don't think this movie was gonna end up being that successful anyways. The movie just lacks a certain edge, parts of me feel that it plays it too safe with the PG-13 rating, because the violence in the film is a little too vanilla for me. I just think that, again, fits into that line of lame fantasy action films like Seventh Son that try to be cool, but end up being anything but. Like I said, however, this movie isn't good in the slightest.

There's nothing that is demonstrably better about the Underworld series that makes me saying this such an absurd notion. If Underworld can have, what, two sequels and one prequel then this movie surely can, well if it had been successful. But, as long as the film embraces its sillier aspects and doesn't take itself too seriously, then a franchise shouldn't be that hard to pull off. The Room is one of the most fun experiences I've had watching a film and it is one of the worst movies I have actually ever seen. A film doesn't have to be good to be enjoyable. Not that I would suggest that a franchise would lead to some great movie, but you can develop a B-tier franchise out of these elements. But the fact is that there's something here that can be expanded upon. Do not misunderstand me, that is not suggesting that I actually want sequels to this movie, which was one of those lame fantasty-esque action movies that we get so every so often, like Seventh Son. You know what's scarier than that? The fact that I wouldn't actually mind that. You know what the scary thing about this movie is? The fact that it seems to be the start of a franchise.
